Don's Book & DVD Selections for 2008 

This is a summary of book and dvd orders that I have placed for 2008, generated by the Library's online system. It differs from our usual New Books list quite a bit, since it includes a lot of books that fall outside usual categories (such as the Hot Topics), and also books that are on order or in process. The list is based on the "fund codes" that we use to place orders. Some fund codes have been combined in this list eg anthropology, American Indians and ethnic studies. In addition, some of our subject categories overlap - in particular, David Doctor & I share the duties for buying Movies.

I have put together this list to give teachers, staff and others an idea of where and how I am spending our dollars. In a time of tightening budgets, it is important to be accountable and transparent on where we spend the College's money, so I hope this gives a clear picture of where I have placed our limited resources in 2008. Of course this does not give an absolute picture - art books for example are often 2-3 times more expensive than history books, so they consume more dollars.

Some other things changed in Fall 2008 also: I dropped ethnic studies and criminal justice, and added politics, dance, theater and music. Except for music, I haven't bought significantly in those areas yet.
